Under Duterte’s Administration, Marikina Shoe Industry Vows to Rise and Fight Fake China Products
Shoemakers in Marikina are doing their best to revive the once biggest Philippine Shoe Industry that was largely affected by the arrival of low-quality plastic shoes from China.
Marikinos shared how serious and dedicated they are in regaining Marikina’s mark in global show industry, as reported in ANC’s The World Tonight.
There were around 3,000 shoe manufacturers enjoying profits in Marikina two decades ago. Year later when China started to distribute plastic, low-quality and cheaper footwear, the number of shoemakers cut down to as low as 300 – a very big blow not only to Marikinos, but also to the whole Philippine shoe industry.
Marikina shoemakers said they are now using the latest technology similar to that used by neighboring countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
Shoes manufactured in Marikina are not low-end like Chinese shoes according to Gibson, one of the pioneers in Marikina shoe industry, and the supplier of Armed Forces of the Philippines, and Philippine National Police.
Marikina was the largest shoe manufacturer in the Philippines decades ago, and the pioneers are urging Filipinos to help support our own industry and reject Chinese products.
Filipinos here and abroad can buy Marikina shoes online by visiting Marikina Shoes Shop Online.
Popular Marikina shoe brands include Bristol, Gibson, Valentino, Chancellor, Rusty Lopez, Bandolino, Alex, and many more.
Marikina Sho Exchange (MSE) also offers a lot of choices from children, men, and women.
“Supporting Marikina Shoes means not only wearing high-quality products, but also helping our local economy to grow and revive”, Marikina Shoemaker Julio said. /Lani Lapuz/
