Most of us Filipinos just can’t have breakfast without coffee. It feels incomplete without this magical pick-me-up drink. However, some researchers suggest that drinking coffee in the morning on an empty stomach can cause serious problems.


Here are some of them:
1) Stomach Acid
The stomach releases hydrochloric acid which helps digest food. However, when you drink coffee on an empty stomach, the acid doesn’t have much anything to work on. Thus it just mixes with the acid in the coffee which can cause heartburn, irritable bowel movement or even stomach ulcers.

2)Anxiety
Coffee can reduce the brain’s capability to produce serotonin, the happy hormone. Furthermore, caffeine can compel your brain to produce more cortisol or stress hormones and adrenaline. This can cause anxiety or depression even.


3) Dehydration
Coffee increases the amount of fluid which your body expels thus resulting to dehydration.

4)Loss of Appetite
Coffee can lead to appetite loss.

According to Researchers, the best time to drink coffee is between 10:00am to noon. So next time, don’t ever drink coffee on an empty stomach!
