After approving the Php100K cash incentives to centenarians, a bill has been passed to congress which seeks to lower the Senior Citizen’s age to 56.
AKO-Bicol partylist Congressmen filed House Bill 529 which seeks to lower the age of Senior Citizen in the country from 60 to 56.
Among those who passed the bill were Representatives Rodel Batocabe, Alfredo Garbin Jr. and Christopher Co. Their goal is to amend Republict Act 7432 or An Act to Maximize the Contribution of Senior Citizens to Nation Building, Grant Benefits and Special Privileges and for Other Purposes.”
They were pointing out that in the age of 56, “age-related ailments and other physical limitations are already experienced”. This should compel the government to lower the age of senior citizen so they can give these Filipinos early benefits and priveleges.
They also said that lifestyle has changed for making for people to become vulnerable to sickness at an early age.
Currently, the priveleges are medical-related, income tax exemptions and other educational privileges. With this, other lawmakers have already filed a housebill for 56-years old and above to have retirement benefits regardless of their position, designation, or status.
The bill can also help in providing more opportunities for younger professionals and fresh graduates.
